The VI Sea Turtle Project

All of our turtles are precious as hawksbill sea turtles are critically endangered. Critically endangered means hawksbill sea turtles face the threat of becoming extinct in the wild. Hawksbill sea turtles are protected under the Endangered Species Act and part of being listed under the ESA requires a recovery plan. The recovery plan for Caribbean hawksbills stresses the importance of locating juvenile and sub adult nursery habitats. The recovery plan also places a special importance on very small hawksbills. To this date we at the VI Sea Turtle Project believe the Cyril KIng runway to be juvenile and sub adult nursery habitat and an extremely important habitat for very small hawksbill turtles.
Feel free to click through the album of all 90 plus turtles that are now part of the project.
Each hawksbill turtle or green turtle gets a name and from that moment is part of the Cyril E. King Runway Project. All work is conducted pursuant to a NMFS permit.
